Norman August Schemmer, 78, of Raytown, MO passed away on March 11, 2016 at the Kansas City Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Timothy Lutheran Church, North Campus, 425 NW R.D. Mize Road, Blue Springs, MO. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 -11:00 a.m. Internment will be at Salem Cemetery at Higginsville, MO at 2:30 p.m.
Norman was born on July 20, 1937 at Mayview, MO, the son of William H. Schemmer and Mary Margaretha (Starkebaum) Schemmer. He was baptized at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church Parsonage in September, 1937. He attended public schools in Concordia and Higginsville, MO and graduated from Higginsville High School in 1955. On August 10, 1963 he married Mary
Louise Marcks, his wife of forty years, until her death on November 11, 2003. He married his present wife, Carol A. (Busch) Loughrey, on August 24, 2005.
Norman graduated from Finley Engineering College in Kansas City in June, 1963 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. From 1963 to 1966 he was employed with the City of Independence as their City Traffic Engineer. Next he worked for two different Engineering firms between 1966 and 1968. In December 1968 he became the Transportation Planner for the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), where he was employed for over thirty-four years, until retirement on July 31, 2003.
Norman was preceded in death by his father, mother and first wife.

Brother: Kenneth W. Schemmer (Grace) of Higginsville
2 grandsons and 4 granddaughters.
The family requests that memorial gifts be designated for Timothy Lutheran Ministries or the Kansas City Hospice House.
Norman was a dedicated husband and father. Service to his church, community and nation were also of importance to him. In his younger years he enjoyed playing the trombone and singing in the church choir. Other interests included US and Canadian travel, following high school, university and professional sports, and learning more about US and world history. He
had a beautiful smile and enjoyed encouraging his family and friends to laugh.
