Elsie M. Mager, 87, of Concordia, died May 28th at the Lutheran Good Shepherd Home in Concordia.

She was born April 24, 1929 in Norwich, KS to Albert and Amelia (Kunz) Janne.

After graduating from high school in Norwich, Elsie attended St. John’s College, in Winfield, KS, graduating with a teacher’s certificate. She moved to Jefferson City, MO to teach grade school. While there, she met her future husband. She married Ken Mager on July 27, 1952 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Argonia, KS. They moved to Higginsville shortly after. She taught at the Immanuel Lutheran School for a few years and then stayed home to raise their three children. While their children were young she worked a little at Kramer’s clothing store. After they were grown she went back to teaching, this time at the Higginsville Habilitation Center. She taught there over 20 years, retiring in 1995.

Elsie was very active in her church, in the choir and the circles. She also was a member of the Higginsville Garden Club. She and Ken loved to go antiquing, searching for lost treasures. 

She is preceded in death by a son, Lyle Mager; brother, Austin Janne; and a sister, Maxine Janne.

She is survived by:

Funeral Services will be held Wed. June 1st at 10:30 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Higginsville, officiated by Pastor Marcus Jauss

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral

Burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery 

Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church and School
