Dolores Steinway, 98, of Brookings, SD, died on February 26, 2018 at The Neighborhoods at Brookview.  

She was born in rural Howell Co., Missouri on April 24, 1919, to James Edward and Jane Ellis Lamb. When Dolores was orphaned, she was welcomed into the home of Henry and Lulu Hook of rural Odessa, MO. 

 She graduated from Higginsville High School in 1937 and married Bynum Redford on August 9, 1939. They had one daughter. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, Mr. Redford joined the Army Air Corps which took the family to Air Force bases all over the United States and to Korea, Japan, Morocco, and Europe.  

Dolores married Warren Steinway on February 13, 1965. Upon retirement, they moved to Rockport, Texas, where they lived for 13 years. They enjoyed traveling in the United States and to Mexico, Costa Rica, and Germany. Upon Mr. Steinway’s death, Dolores moved to Higginsville, MO, where she lived until 2012, when she moved to Brookings, SD to be near her daughter and son-in-law.

She is survived by her daughter, Luanne, and son-in-law Darrell Napton of Brookings, and by her cousins Lorene Hook and C.W. Hook, of Higginsville.

  She was preceded in death by her foster parents and Mr. Hook’s second wife, Ethel Hook, her brother Carl, and sisters Opal Eyles and Janis Powell, and by her husband, Warren Steinway.

There will be a visitation Friday, March 2nd from 5-6 p.m. Kaiser-Wiegers Funeral Home

Private family graveside services will be held at the Odessa Cemetery.
