Walter E. Homfeld “Red”, 76, formerly of Higginsville, died June 13th at Oak Grove Nursing and Rehab. 

He was born June 9, 1943 in Higginsville to Louis and Dora (Bergsieker) Homfeld.  

After his full time service in the National Guard, he went to work at Lake City, where he worked for over 25 years. While at Lake City he started working for, and then purchased a trucking company that would become Walter Transport. 

He was a Boy Scout Leader and a lifetime member of the East Gate Masonic Lodge #630. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; a brother, Ryland; and a sister, Delores Fricke; 2 grandchildren, Holly and Ryan.

He is survived by:

                Daniel Karney (Elescia)   of Blue Springs
                Bill Karney (Tracy)           of Independence
Sister:      Mary Dickmeier (Hubert)   of Corder

Grandchildren:   Cole, Lane, Matt, Becky, Jake, Josh, Sarah, Desiree, Michael, Becky, Andrea

Visitation will be Monday, June 17th from 6:30-8:00 pm, 
at the Kaiser ~Wiegers Funeral Home

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 18th at 10:30 am 
at Salem United Church of Christ, officiated by Dr. Tommy Faris.

Casket Bearers will be grandsons, Matt Karney, Jake Karney, Josh Karney, Cole Homfeld, Lane Homfeld, Eric Reese

He will be buried in the Salem Cemetery 

Memorials are suggested to Salem UCC or the Shriners Children’s Hospital
