John David Fette, of Parkville, Missouri, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019, at his home in Parkville, Missouri.
John lived with a gift of expression and lived an earthly life of, fifty-four years, one month, and four days.
It was on a Monday, March 22, 1965, in Lexington, Missouri, that the Lord blessed the home of Ernest Lee and Myrna Louise (Landwehr) Fette with the gift of a son, naming him John David. John was the fourth and final baby born into the home, having an older brother, Brent and two older sisters, LeAnn and Susanne. He was doted over and picked over, but it built his character to becoming the punster he was to everyone. John attended school in Higginsville, through Lafayette County C1 and graduated with the Huskers Class of 1983. Upon graduation, he proudly enlisted on August 15, 1983, into the United States Army. He was employed with Pexco CO., in Precision Explosive Control, and he was also able to fulfill his passion for cooking and worked at Jumpin’ Catfish, but his last employment was with Time Warner, AMC Theatres, as an IT Support Analyst. His co-workers say it has been tranquil without John around to make them laugh. Any place John was employed he was noticed by managers and was always mentioned by his name. It was important to him to give his very best at whatever he chose as his profession. John believed in the Lord as his Savior and was a member of Salem United Church of Christ.
John remained a bachelor for almost fifty years until he met the love of his life and on Saturday, October 25, 2014, in a quaint little white chapel known as the Confederate Chapel in Higginsville, Missouri, he exchanged marriage vows with Sandra Anne Nunnaley. On this blessed day, John also had made another promise to Sandra’s three daughters, Savannah, Raven, and Brooklin, that he would honor their mother and protect and love them as his own. John felt that the new responsibilities of becoming a role model to these three beautiful girls was a genuine gift and he coasted into it quickly and naturally. Sandra and John spent almost five years together as husband and wife and many memories, camping trips and vacations were shared in such a short time.
John was known to be the easy-going, good-natured fellow, always sharing funny puns about everything we encounter in life. His favorite was teasing Brooklin, who never hurried to get anywhere; he would say to her, “You’re Slower than a Dead Turtle!” He was always the comedian and loved to make people feel happy and to replenish the room with lots of laughter. He loved to be outdoors, and camping was their home away from home. They visited many State Parks and loved fishing and visiting the hatcheries. He was an avid deer hunter with his nephew Jake as his sidekick, always having a good time together in the woods or a tree stand. The Army was always a big part of John, and he often visited the American Legion Hall to talk to other veterans whose lives had also been impacted by the military. He loved “Taco Tuesday” and enjoyed grilling and smoking many different types of meat and always trying a new meat rub recipe. He had no enemies and many friends. Everyone loved John dearly, and John loved everyone.
John is survived by his devoted and loving wife Sandra Anne Fette of the home; three daughters that he loved dearly, Savannah Jennings, Raven Jennings (David), and Brooklin Foster; a brother, Brent Fette (Vickie Jacobs) of Higginsville, Missouri; two sisters, LeAnn Russell (Paul) of Bonner Springs, Kansas, and Susanne “Sue” Simpson (Roy) of Warrensburg, Missouri; a special nephew Jake McCartney and many other nieces and nephews that John loved dearly and treated as his own.
John was preceded in death by his parents Ernest Lee and Myrna Louise (Landwehr) Fette.
Celebration of Life Service, Military Honor Service, and Committal will commence at The Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Missouri at 3:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2019, with Pastor Rustin Umstattd officiating.
Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 223, Higginsville, Missouri and the United States Army.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Johns’ nephews: Brent Fette II, Logan Simpson, Wyatt Simpson, and Jake McCartney.
In lieu of flowers and as an expression of sympathy in memory of John, Memorial Contributions are suggested to the Kansas City Public School Educational Foundation. John and Sandra have generously provided to this foundation for the well-being of area students through the “Loads of Love Program” by supplying a brand-new washing machine and dryer, to the elementary schools for children to have a place to wash their clothing.
