Melvin L. Dickmeyer, 86, of Buckner, died March 31, 2021 at Lafayette Regional Medical Center. 

He was born June 21, 1934, in Mayview, to Clarence and Hulda (Redhage) Dickmeyer.

He grew up in Mayview and graduated from Mayview High School. He entered the Army on March 13, 1957. After completing boot camp, he married Louann Marcks on June 1, 1957 at Ebenezer UCC in Levasy. They moved to Seaside, CA and he completed his enlistment. He was honorably discharged on March 12, 1959, and they settled in Buckner. 

Melvin owned Buckner Hardware for several years. They sold the store and moved to the family farm in 1975. Melvin moved back to town in 2007, following the death of Louann in 2004. While farming was his passion, he also worked as a mail carrier for 25 years and at Tractor Supply, for 20 years. He never stopped working. He would work at Mark’s farm every chance he could, putting up hay or any other excuse to get on a tractor. 

Melvin was a member of the Farm Bureau, Ebenezer UCC and the AARP. He served on the Jackson County Soil and Water District. He and Louann loved traveling and RV camping. They visited all 50 states, some multiple times and they took many trips to Branson-to many to count.

Melvin is preceded in death by his wife, Louann; his parents; a sister, Dorothy Gross.

He is survived by:  
Son:          Mark Dickmeyer (Michelle)    of Sibley
Daughter:   Janet Daubendiek (Bill)         of Sibley 

6 Grandchildren            2 Great Grandchildren 

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 5th from 6-8 pm at Ebenezer United Church of Christ in Levasy.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 6th at 10:30 am at the church, officiated by Rev. Jeanne Lischer and Pastor Doug Schildknecht.

Casket Bearers will be Adam Dickmeyer, Kyle Dickmeyer, Ken Gibson, Jonathan Preslar, Jordan Hicks, Glen Gross.

He will be buried at the Ebenezer Cemetery south of Levasy.
